Kevin Feige explains why Natalie Portman is returning for Thor: Love and Thunder

July 26, 2019 by Liam Waddington

There were a lot of announcements at the Marvel panel coming out of San Diego Comic Con, but one of the biggest reveals of the day was the return of Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman for the next chapter for Thor the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thor: Love and Thunder – especially with the reveal that Natalie Portman would be playing Lady Thor.

Now, Kevin Feige has revealed how and why Portman was convinced to return for Phase Four of the MCU – and it’s down to The Mighty Thor source material.

In a recent interview with CNN, Feige explains, “we love the story — it’s one of the best comic runs recently. [Director Taika Waititi] would flip through and read that run while he was doing Ragnarok. And I think when he agreed to come back and do another Thor, he was like, ‘How do we–?’ This is a very big movie that’ll be folding in a lot of elements. That is a huge important part of it. He pitched it to us, and we were totally in. We loved it. We’d been in touch with Natalie. She’s part of the MCU family and we put she and Taika together. It took one meeting and she agreed to do it.”
