Percy Jackson and the Olympians scores early third season renewal from Disney+

March 14, 2025 by Ricky Church

Even though the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians isn’t set to premiere until December of this year, Disney+ has already given the greenlight for a third season of the hit fantasy series based on Rick Riordan’s YA novels.

Percy Jackson follows the title character who discovers he is a demigod, the son to a mortal mother and god of the sea Poseidon. As a demigod he is constantly hunted by demons and sent to Camp Half-Blood where demigods are kept safe and trained for fights against any threat to them. Percy’s world is further unraveled when he learns he may be the key to a prophecy that could either save or destroy the world.

Part of the reason for the early renewal is so Disney can avoid the lengthy gap that has happened between the first and second seasons and accommodate for the ages of the young leads Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jefferies so they don’t run into a Stranger Things problem where they are clearly much older than the young – late teens they are portraying.

With the upcoming season based on The Sea of Monsters, the next season will adapt The Titan’s Curse, the third book in the series, following Percy and his friends as they attempt to save a pair of twin half-bloods from an army of demons.

“We’re so grateful to be continuing the story of Percy Jackson on Disney+,” said Riordan. “This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time. It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney, and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide!”

“From the moment Percy Jackson and the Olympians debuted, it was clear this series had struck a chord with fans of all ages,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “With season two set to premiere this December, we’re thrilled to announce that Percy’s journey will continue with a third season. Huge thanks to our incredible cast and creative team, our partners at 20th Television, and our visionary and talented producers who continue to bring Rick Riordan’s world to life with such depth and imagination.”

It is unknown when the third season will begin production, but if Disney aims to lessen the gap between seasons and keep the young actors looking relatively the same in age, it is likely to begin sometime this summer in Vancouver where it has filmed its previous two seasons.

Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Glynn Turman as Chiron, and Toby Stephens as Poseidon. Season two will introduce Daniel Diemer, Timothy Simons, Tamara Smart, Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, Margaret Cho and Andra Day to the cast with Courtney B. Vance taking on the role of Zeus after Lance Reddick’s passing.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 will come to Disney+ in December 2025.
