Captain Marvel adds new cast member, DCEU not being cancelled, no Lando in The Last Jedi and more – Daily News Roundup

November 23, 2017 by Luke Owen

HUGE CAPTAIN MARVEL CASTING

The first female-led Marvel Studios movie, Captain Marvel, landed some big casting news yesterday, with Variety reporting that Jude Law has signed on to play Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) mentor in the movie. He will join Ben Mendelsohn as the yet-to-be-named villain and Samuel L. Jackson who reprises his role as Nick Fury. Read more here.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 SCRIPT RELEASED ONLINE

As he’s promised for some time, James Gunn released the full script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 online. He also released a series of tweets that explained the differences between the movie and the script, and how improvisation worked on the set. Read more here.

NO DCEU CANCELLATION PLANS

A rumour spread on Reddit earlier this week following the lacklustre opening of Justice League – which has earned the lowest domestic opening of the entire DCEU – that Warner Bros. were planning a five-year hiatus of DC movies to re-calibrate fans. However Shazam director David F. Sandburg is a Reddit user and responded, “Nobody told me. Can I take the day off tomorrow then? I really want to sleep in.” Read more here.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: DIRECTOR’S CUT

Earlier this week DC fans started a petition for Warner Bros. to release the Zack Snyder version of Justice League without Joss Whedon’s reshoots, and now speaking with The Hollywood Reporter cinematographer Fabian Wagner has said he would like one too. “This one was even shorter than I expected, so there are scenes that aren’t in there. I really hope we get to see a director’s cut, which will give us everything that we shot that didn’t make it in. What I love about his [Snyder’s] director’s cuts is they are long, but he takes his time to tell the story. I’ve never watched any of his directors cut and thought ‘This is long.” Whether they are three hours long, or three hours and ten minutes, they always seemed to go quick.” Read more here.

NO LANDO IN LAST JEDI

Bad news Star Wars fans, the lovable Lando Calrissian will not be featuring in Star Wars: The Last Jedi according to its director Rian Johnson. “I don’t want fans to get their hopes up,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s not in the film, and it was never really something that came up. I mean, I loved that character. It would have been fun to see him, but it’s just not something that ever really had a place in the story.” Read more here.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM TEASE

It’s been rumoured that the first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be released alongside Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the film’s producer, Colin Trevorrow has shared a little tease of the movie via Twitter. Check it out here.
