Comic Book Review – Zombies vs Robots #3

April 8, 2015 by Andrew Newton

Andrew Newton reviews Zombies vs Robots #3…

“Inherit the Earth!,” part 3! Space-faring humans have returned to Earth to find it still dead but crawling with oddly sentient zombies, robots and… Mermen! Finally! Also: Niles and Mayerik continue to help rebuild the mythos in unexpected ways!

Issue 3 of Zombies vs Robots is now available and part 3 of ‘Inherit the Earth’ finds humanity finally returning to the surface of Earth and making a big splash….literally but what are the thoughts of those who lurk beneath the waves?  What is the robots current role in the events beginning to unfold?  Chris Ryall performs excellently with his alternative zombie apocalypse storyline.

In the second story of this issue, titled ‘Of Metal and Bone’, a young boy comes across an old warbot and decides to spend the night. The simple art style by Ashley Wood in this tale is very appealing and only disappointing in the sense that his artwork only covers 2 pages.

Our third story this issue continues with part 3 of ‘The Orphan’.  Part 2 ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and this issue continues on from there. Rosemary’s robotic friend takes on the decaying remains of humanity but all isn’t as it seems at the robot parts pit.  Steve Niles’ story is becoming quite addictive and I’m getting very tempted to read this part of the comic before any other.   Val Mayerik’s artwork is nice and crisp with a great amount of detail placed in every frame that makes it enjoyable to look at again with a finer eye.

Once again this issue of Zombies vs Robots is an excellent read. There is plenty for zombie fans to see in these stories and it’s nice to see that the genre isn’t limited to that defined by The Walking Dead.
