Nicolas Cage believes he would make a “great” Joker

April 10, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Nicolas Cage believes that he would be a “great” Joker and that the part would be the “perfect” role for him.

Jokers seem to be coming thick and fast these days, Jared Leto has mostly recently inhabited the role in Suicide Squad, Joaquin Phoenix is being mentioned for the solo Joker movie, and now Nicolas Cage has thrown his hat into the ring.

The actor, who is known for his often bizarre performance choices, has spoken to JoBlo about his history with comic book movies and said that he believes he would make an excellent Joker if the part were ever to come to him:

“I mean, I think my comic book days are kind of…I’m on to other things, but I always thought I’d make a great Joker and I always thought that I would’ve been a good villain in one of the Marvel [movies] like Doctor Doom. But, Doctor Doom you have to wear that mask, but I thought the story leading up to Doctor Doom could’ve been interesting. At this point if I was to go back into the format it would probably have to be as a villain.”

And reiterating his pull towards the Joker, Cage said: “It would be the perfect one for me to go even more off the rails than I’ve ever done before and, y’know, it’d be fun.”

As Cage mentions, he’s certainly wacky enough to pull it off but what do you think? Is Cage as well suited to the famous role as he believes?

In the meantime, Cage does have one superhero film on his upcoming slate as he is set to lend his voice to Superman in the upcoming animated movie Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, some twenty years after the collapse of Tim Burton’s live-action Superman Lives movie.
